Trump spoke to Zelensky by phone

Washington/Kyiv – Former US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump, who this week accepted the nomination for the November US presidential election, that he wrote on his social network Truth Social. He described the interview as “very good”. Zelenskyy confirmed the phone call and said that he had agreed to a personal meeting with Trump.

Trump has previously repeatedly said that if he wins the November election, he will quickly end the war in Ukraine, which is facing a Russian military invasion. In a post about the phone call with Zelensky, he wrote that as the next US president, he would bring peace to the world and end “a war that has cost so many lives and destroyed countless innocent families.” “Both sides will be able to meet and negotiate an agreement that will end the violence and open the way to prosperity,” he added.

Last Saturday, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, from which he escaped with an injury to his right ear. Zelenskyy condemned this assassination in a telephone conversation.

“I spoke to Donald Trump to congratulate him on the Republican nomination (for the presidency) and to condemn the shocking assassination attempt. I wished him strength and complete safety in the future,” he wrote the Ukrainian president on the X network. He added that he had agreed with Trump to discuss in a personal meeting what steps could be taken to ensure a just and lasting peace. He also expressed gratitude to the United States for helping Ukraine to face “Russian terror”.
