Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the television station CBS. The lawsuit was filed on the basis of an interview with the Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, in the program ’60 Minutes’, which was shown on CBS on October 6.
The suit, filed in a Texas state court, claims the interview was misleading and that the broadcaster allegedly recorded two different answers from Harris to a question about the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The version shown on the TV show, according to the lawsuit, did not include what is described as a confusing and incomprehensible response from Harris about the Biden administration’s influence on Israel’s warfare.
The lawsuit alleges that the interview violated a Texas law that prohibits deceptive conduct in the conduct of business. Trump demands compensation of 10 billion dollars, which corresponds to around 69 billion kroner.
“Former President Donald Trump’s repeated allegations against ’60 Minutes’ are false”, says a spokesperson for CBS on Friday.
“The lawsuit that Trump has brought against CBS today is completely unfounded, and we will vigorously defend ourselves against it,” adds the spokesperson.
In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly reached out to the TV station based on the interview with Harris. He has threatened to withdraw the CBS station’s broadcasting license if he is elected president in the election on Tuesday.
According to the TV station, Trump has also canceled a planned participation in the TV program ’60 Minutes’.
The polls are currently predicting a close race between the two presidential candidates before Americans go to the polls on Tuesday.
