The United States and its President-elect Donald Trump may be about to scrap the electric car bonus car buyers can get, Reuters reports, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the plans.
In that case, it is judged to be a heavy blow to President Joe Biden’s big package for green transition, reduced dependence on fossil fuels and investment in new jobs in the sector in the USA.
According to Reuters sources, the head of Tesla, the electric car manufacturer Elon Musk, supports the scrapping of the subsidy, which amounts to 7,500 dollars, a little over 80,000 kroner. Musk has become one of Trump’s top advisers.
In reaction to the data, the share prices of US automakers and Asian battery companies fell.
In July, Musk said that his Tesla would feel the end of the subsidy somewhat. But it would, according to him, be devastating for Tesla’s American competitors in the United States, including General Motors.
Trump promised during the election campaign that he would start dismantling Biden’s big climate package immediately.
In a post on X on Thursday, Elon Musk wrote that the US should eliminate all subsidies for electric cars, oil and gas.
