Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sunday got serious about plans to tease his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, with a visit to a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania. He had previously told Breitbart News that it was “just for fun”.
Harris says she worked at a McDonald’s when she was young, but Trump has said he doesn’t believe her.
“I don’t mind this job,” Trump said, according to the AFP news agency, as he briefly helped serve customers.
He asked if customers ever asked for more salt.
“I love salt!”, Trump exclaimed, throwing something over his shoulder, which he explained as being superstitious.
Later, Trump holds a campaign event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Harris celebrated his birthday in church
At the same time, Kamala Harris celebrated her 60th birthday on Sunday with a visit to a church in the state of Georgia. Here she tried, among other things, to gain support among the Americans who cast their vote early in the run-up to the election on 5 November.
Georgia is among the seven swing states that are likely to decide the presidential election in 16 days, with polls showing that it could be extremely close between her and Trump.
Harris, who has sung in church choirs, attended a service Sunday at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in the town of Stonecrest, about 50 kilometers east of Atlanta. In addition to attending the service, she spoke to the assembly and lamented the current political climate, where, according to her, the tone is harsh and creates division.
“At this time across our nation, we see that some are trying to increase division among us and spread hatred, fear and chaos,” she said.
“Our country is at a crossroads, and it’s up to us where we go,” continued the Democratic presidential candidate.
Harris and her vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, on Sunday promoted the ‘Souls to the Polls’ initiative, which targets black voters through churches and denominations.
