Foreign. Outgoing US President Joe Biden has, according to information to the New York Times, suddenly given Ukraine the go-ahead to use US long-range robots to strike targets inside Russia. This after his successor Donald Trump spoke out clearly in support of peace in the region.

The weapon system that Biden has now approved is called ATACMS and has a range of up to 300 kilometers. It can reach strategic airfields and logistical bases inside Russia.

The 81-year-old’s move is expected to give Ukraine a significant military advantage in the war, particularly in regions such as Kursk where Russian and North Korean units are reported to have massed.

Ukraine’s appeal for these weapons has been going on for months, and now they are preparing to launch a first strike shortly, according to reports from Reuters.

The decision marks a sharp shift in US war policy and has yet to be officially confirmed by the White House. However, it has provoked strong reactions. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that this could draw NATO closer to direct conflict with Russia.

At the same time, Donald Trump has announced that he plans to reduce aid to Ukraine and that he wants to stop the war without delay.

– Russia and Ukraine must put an end to this. I saw a report today that thousands of people have been killed in the last three days. Thousands upon thousands of people were killed. They happened to be soldiers, but whether they’re soldiers or people sitting in cities, we’re going to work it out, Trump reportedly said Business Insider.

The president-elect has consistently said his priority is to end the war and end what he describes as a burden on the United States as well.
