US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump compares the potential of cryptocurrency to the great importance the US steel industry had for the country 100 years ago.
He wants to make the US the “crypto capital of the world”.
That’s what it sounded like from Trump in a speech at a conference on cryptocurrency in the big city of Nashville in the state of Tennessee.
– Bitcoin is going to the moon and I want the US to lead the way.
– Bitcoin is not only a technical marvel, it is a miracle of cooperation and human achievement, the ex-president continued.
Cryptocurrency can be described as a kind of digital and decentralized currency system. The oldest and most well-known cryptocurrency is bitcoin from 2009, but there are over 1000 others.
According to Reuters, the statements are an attempt to woo crypto-enthusiastic voters ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election.
Trump also warned in the speech that China and other countries will adopt cryptocurrency if the United States does not. In China, there is currently a ban on the trading of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin.
In order to make the United States the so-called crypto capital of the world, Trump – if he is elected as president – will ensure that cryptocurrencies are produced in the United States, that the “hate” against the industry behind ends, and he will set up a presidential council which will advise on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, he said.
He also wants to create a national “reserve store” of bitcoin.
– Bitcoin does not threaten the dollar. The current government’s behavior threatens the dollar, it says.
Transactions with the digital currencies take place without the banks. They can be bought at various exchanges on the Internet. The price is controlled by supply and demand.
The system is based on so-called Blockchain technology. The digital coins can be stored in a virtual wallet on the web. A growing number of both brick-and-mortar businesses and online services have begun to accept bitcoin as payment.
