Representative Waltz said this in a Fox News interview on the 24th (local time), saying that U.S. President-elect Trump is concerned about the war escalating due to North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia and Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles. “The president-elect is very concerned about escalation and where it will lead,” he said. “We must end war responsibly, restore deterrence and peace, and move forward rather than react to escalation.”
It was also made clear that plans to end the war would be reviewed even before the inauguration of the second Trump administration. “President Trump has made it very clear that this war must end,” Waltz said. “Whether it is an agreement or a ceasefire, we must discuss who sits at the table, how to bring both sides to the table, and how to frame the deal.” “he claimed. He emphasized, “We will work with this (current) administration until January and beyond.”
He also met and spoke with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan of the Joe Biden administration and said the two sides are cooperating closely. He emphasized, “If our enemies think this is an opportunity to drive a wedge between the two (Biden and Trump) administrations, they are wrong. We have a close relationship and are a team with the United States in the transition of power.” Regarding the Biden administration’s decision to allow Ukraine to use anti-personnel landmines, it indirectly expressed support, saying it was necessary to prevent Russia from securing territory.
He also said that he met with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Mark Rutte regarding the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine, and said, “Europeans will play an important role.”
Regarding the future policy toward China in Trump’s second term, he said, “There will be much more conversation about our economy and market power, including how to bring supply chains for key minerals, energy, pharmaceuticals, etc. back to the United States in competition with China.” “It is,” he explained.
