The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that the country will destroy the forty-year game of the imperialists and their puppets, who “direct the political and economic map” of the country through terrorist organizations.
Erdogan attended a commemorative meeting on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the death of the founder of modern Turkey, Kemal Ataturk, held at the Ataturk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History.
“Every word, every attitude, every action aimed at breaking the unity and solidarity of this people, regardless of the purpose, is a direct betrayal of Mustafa Kemal’s trust,” Erdogan said, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
Erdogan said that attempts to occupy Turkey from the southern borders have been prevented, and that in the coming period, he will complete the missing links of the security zone along all borders.
“We will destroy the forty-year game of imperialists and their puppets, who direct the political and economic road map of our country through terrorist organizations,” Erdogan emphasized.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also paid tribute to Ataturk on the 86th anniversary of his death.
“We support the foreign policy vision, which represents Turkey’s independent course and principled position,” said Fidan.
At 9:05 a.m. local time, sirens sounded to mark the moment of Ataturk’s death.
Across the country, people then stopped and stood in silence to remember the founder of the modern Turkish state.
Ataturk was born in 1881 in Thessaloniki, then the Ottoman Empire. He gained the greatest military fame by leading Turkish fighters in the Battle of Canakale. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the First World War, Ataturk led the Turkish army in the war of liberation.
As the founder and president of the Republic of Turkey, he transformed the country into a modern, secular and pro-Western state. He died on this day in 1938 at the age of 57 in the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.
Ataturk’s body was transferred to Anitkabir Mausoleum on November 10, 1953, on the 15th anniversary of his death.
