Sometimes a series is so addictive and short that you can finish it in one evening, like a slightly longer movie. Twilight of the Gods is such a production, which debuted on Netflix in September.
The competition between man and the gods is a motif as old as the oldest beliefs. Particularly in polytheistic religions, gods often had characteristics of humans, including a set of many flaws, often caricatured. This led to this any contact with the gods was dangerousbecause due to their powers they were unstoppable, and bold people who dared to challenge them or even oppose them ended miserably.
The feeling of being wronged by the gods and the desire to take revenge on them, or the need to compete with them, is a very popular motif in culture. One of the currently most popular video game series tells the story of a Spartan warrior who takes revenge on the gods for the death of his loved ones. We are, of course, talking about Kratos and God of War.

Kratos, however, is not the only person whose loved ones have suffered as a result of the gods’ actions. Its female counterpart can certainly be called Sigrid from the Twilight of the Gods serieswhich has been available on Netflix since September. Animation by Zack Snyder tells the story of a half-giante who decided to leave her hometown and seek her happiness somewhere else. Due to her small size, she felt that her place was among people.
There she met Leif, a prince of one of the northern peoples, whose life she saved during the battle. Sigrid fought so bravely that her bravery was appreciated even by the gods, and the woman herself was kissed by the Valkyrie. The then prince and later king, despite his father’s objections, was determined to marry Sigrid. However, they decided to hold the wedding ceremony among the family of a half-giant woman. Leif was warmly welcomed into the land of giants, but his joy did not last long. On the night of the wedding, Thor visited the land of the giants and in his anger he murdered almost everyoneand Sigrid and Leif survived only thanks to the intervention of Baldur, who lied to his brother. From that moment on, Sigrid swore revenge on the god of thunder.
It is known that fighting a god is not the easiest taskwhich is why many eccentric characters appear in the series, because apparently only those are ready for this type of fight, and this leads to many unusual situations and dialogues. Loki, a symbol of deception and a favorite of movie lovers, also plays an important role in the story.
The series consists of eight episodes, each lasting approximately half an hour except for the last episode, which is 42 minutes long. In total, we get about four hours of viewing time, which, given the right mood, can be watched literally in one evening. The animation is dynamic and action-packed. The fight scenes are interesting and well done, sometimes making it hard to blink without missing something. It’s also interesting the figure of Thor himselfwho fights like he is invincible, being able to destroy an entire army by himself. He is unstoppable like the element he represents. It completes the whole brilliant music by Hans Zimmer.
However, I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t stick to something. I didn’t like it very much frivolous approach to sexuality and erotic scenes. The series would have gained a lot if it had used suggestion here, instead of literally and ostentatiously showing the act. Of course, during a great battle, where every second decides life or death, the main characters find a secluded place to tell each other sob stories. There are quite a few inaccuracies in the series, especially regarding the ending, so I will not mention them here. Nevertheless, the series is worth a chance, especially if we are looking for something engaging for a cold autumn evening.
