Two people are now in the hands of the police, members of a criminal organization that had spread its “tentacles” in many areas of the country, deceiving elderly citizens over the phone.
The group acted methodically: their accomplices called elderly people and pretended to be doctors, asking for money for an allegedly urgent surgery of a close relative. Once the unsuspecting citizens fell for the trap, the two arrested would pick up the money or valuables from predetermined points, and take them across the border, all the way to Bulgaria.
The police investigation of the Security Directorate of Ioannina, in collaboration with the Security Departments of Arta and Salamina and the Police Department of Palamas Karditsa, revealed that the criminal group had withdrawn a total of 25,000 euros in various areas, such as Salamina, Trikala, Arta and Ioannina .
10 golden pounds, gold pieces and 4,000 euros were found in the possession of the perpetrators, which were returned to the defrauded. Those arrested were taken to the Prosecutor’s Office of Primary Ioannina.
