Two dead in the Triathlon World Championship

Two athletes died during the age-related events of the Triathlon World Championship, which is being held in Torremolinos, Spain.

The confirmation was made by World Triathlon (International Triathlon Union) through an official statement.

“It is with deep sadness that we inform you that two participants (one from Mexico and the other from Great Britain) have died at the Torremolinos-Andalucía AG Distance Sprint Triathlon World Championship, which takes place today, October 17. Our deepest condolences go to their respective families, friends, National Federations and the entire triathlon family”, says the statement.

The same source adds: “World Triathlon, the Spanish Federation and the COL are in contact with families and National Federations to provide all the necessary support in these difficult and sad times.”

According to the EFE agency, the two men, who competed in the age group category, died in separate incidents. The Mexican athlete died while participating in the swimming segment, and the British athlete in the running segment.
