Two Easter eggs in homage to Toriyama

In episode #11titled “Legend”, from the series Dragon Ball Daima fans have discovered two easter eggs that celebrate the author’s early works. These hidden references are not only a nod to the roots of the saga, but they recall Akira Toriyama’s influence on the world of manga and anime.

Majin Duu and the nod to Dr. Slump

The first easter egg of the episode concerns Majin Duu, a mysterious and potentially formidable character. On the surface, Duu seems to have inherited common traits with Buuone of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball franchise. But it is his behavior that particularly attracts attention. As soon as he appears, Duu adopts a wacky and playful attitude which strongly recalls Arale, the main character of the comic series Dr. Slump.

Toriyama

As a reminder, before Goku arrives in the Dragon Ball universe, Akira Toriyama made his debut in the world of manga with Dr. Slumpa series full of humor and visual gags. Arale, a little robot girl with a mischievous personality, is one of Toriyama’s most famous creations.

In Dragon Ball DaimaMajin Duu makes a remarkable entrance by shouting the famous “n’cha”, Arale’s signature. This cry is instantly recognizable to those who know Dr. Slumpbecause it is part of Arale’s repertoire, particularly in its special technique, the N’cha Cannon.

This is a devastating attack who wreaks havoc in his own universe. The inclusion of this reference in Dragon Ball Daima also suggests that Majin Duu may possess abilities similar to Arale.

Neva et la chanson “Makafushigi Adventure!”

Le second easter-egg de episode #11 is more direct and even more poignant for longtime Dragon Ball fans. Neva, a legendary and mysterious sage from the planet Namek, makes a notable appearance. On the surface he appears to be an elderly and senile character, but his true wisdom is quickly revealed.

As the heroes of the series cross the Demon Realm, Neva begins singing “Makafushigi Adventure!”, the opening theme of the very first Dragon Ball anime. This musical piece, which marked the start of the series in 1986, is one of the most iconic elements of the original Dragon Ball. It represents the very essence of adventure, of the quest for the Dragon Balls and Goku’s carefree youth.

As a reminder, Akira Toriyama Friday March 8 this year at the age of 68 from an acute subdural hematoma.
