FCSB were defeated 2-3 by Sparta Prague in the second leg of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League, missing out on qualifying for the play-offs.
Two members of the Golden Generation admitted that the Czechs trampled us in the first 45 minutes of FCSB – Sparta Prague
The visiting team started strongly and opened the scoring in the 13th minuteand after another 24 minutes he had scored two more goals. The poor performance of Gigi Becali’s players made two members of the Golden Generation give the harshest verdict at halftime of the match at the Steaua Stadium.
“Unbelievable, what a difference between games. How much could change in a week. Very big difference.
They stepped on our feet. I didn’t win a duel. I have not seen FCSB play in this manner”, said Florin Prunea, la DigiSport.
“I knew it would be an extremely difficult match. They started high, won one-on-one duels. It’s clear that we haven’t been able to create problems offensively. It was a good game played by Sparta Prague in the first half”, added Ilie Dumitrescu.
Crețu and Radunovic were outplayed each time in the one-on-one duels
The former midfielder harshly criticized the players of the Romanian champion, stating that it is the first time that he cannot notice anyone from the defense. Crețu and Radunovic were outmatched every time in one-on-one duels, and the two central defenders, Dawa and Ngezana, were almost non-existent, which is why Olatunji did what he wanted with them.
Ilie Dumitrescu says that if the defense was at a very good level, it was not enough that at halftime it would be very difficult to hope for qualification. The former international’s conclusion is that a good result is not only achieved with attacking players.
The matches with LASK Linz take place on August 22 in Austria and on August 29 in Bucharest
The TV analyst commented on the phase in the 28th minute when Sparta Prague received a shot from 11 meters after a foul by Dawa on Olatunji, Birmancevic converting without any emotion.
“If it’s not 2-0 there… It’s imprudence (no – at Dawa), it’s no longer a gift, it’s how you judge the phase, how you interpret it. You have no chance to head the ball there. I don’t know how he managed to jump again”, declared Dumitrescu.
Eliminated from the Champions League, FCSB will play in the play-off for the Europa League groups against the Austrian team LASK Linz. The first leg takes place in Austria on August 22, and the return leg is scheduled for August 29, in Bucharest.
