This year, the competition for Android 15 seems fiercer than ever.
While Google, the creator of the operating system, has already released the stable version for its Pixel devices on October 15, other phone makers are rushing to keep up.
Motorola is making progress
Motorola, a company not known for quick updates in the past, has started rolling out a beta version of the operating system for select Edge 50 devices.
While only a few Edge 50 Fusion models are eligible for the beta at the moment, and the selection criteria are unclear, the move could be the result of the company’s promise to provide five years of updates to the Edge range.
Samsung, pending official announcement
The South Korean company is an early adopter of major Android updates, but has yet to make any official announcement about the much-awaited One UI 7 update based on Android 15.
However, he promised to bring update-ul on a wide range of devices, from the Galaxy A14 to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
OnePlus is preparing OxygenOS 15
Meanwhile, OnePlus has announced that it will officially launch OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15 at its online event on October 24, 2024.
The company promises that the new version will introduce AI-powered features and a smoother design, describing it as the fastest and “user-friendly” version of OxygenOS yet.
The event will also reveal the list of devices that will receive this update, but it is expected that recent models such as OnePlus 12, OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Open will quickly benefit from the new software.
Other players in the race
While the company has yet to specify exactly what AI features will be included, they are expected to focus on maximizing productivity and creativity.
Vivo and Asus are also in the arena, with Vivo already starting to roll out the Android 15 update and Asus rolling out a beta for one of its high-end models.
What’s new in Android 15?
This does not appear to be a major upgrade from the previous version.
Many of its new features, such as improved multitasking for foldable devices and Private Space, are already available on some smartphones, such as those from OnePlus.
