two new thermal versions arrive in the catalog

The Hyundai Kona, we know it in hybrid and electric versions, a little less in thermal. However, it is indeed two new gasoline versions that the Korean manufacturer offers in the catalog in France.

While Hyundai offers one of the most extensive electric and hybrid ranges on the market, we sometimes forget that the Korean brand still offers some fully thermal engines, particularly on its smaller models.

So far, the Kona was only allowed micro-hybrid engines based on a 48-volt system. Now, there are no more micro-hybrids that fit these two new blocks.

Hyundai levels down

The first engine is a modest 1.0-litre turbo with 100 hp coupled with a manual gearbox. Its price is rather advantageous compared to the rest of the range, since it starts from 27,600 eurosto which must be added an ecological penalty of 280 euros due to the 129 grams of CO2.
The second engine is a slightly faster 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, 138 ch mated to an automatic transmission. Emissions climb to 141 grams of CO2/km, i.e. a penalty of 1074 euros to be added to a starting price of 32,800 euros. It should be noted that the second engine is available from the second trim level “Creative”, while the first is available from the basic trim level “Intuitive”.

Electric almost at the same price, but…

Compared to the 129 hp full hybrid version that starts at 33,800 euros, the price difference with the same 100 hp thermal finish is 5,920 euros. With the equal “Creative” finish, the difference falls to 2,276 euros. In electric, the vehicle starts at 36,850 euros, from which must be subtracted 4,000 euros of ecological bonus.
Its price drops to 32,850 euros for the entry-level model and 33,850 euros for the Creative trim, which is a few hundred euros less than the price of the 138 hp petrol version. This is bound to make you hesitate when the price of electric cars is often much higher than that of thermal cars!

Let us clarify, however, that the electric Kona in question is the one with its small 48 kWh battery and whose WLTP autonomy is announced at 377 km. It will therefore not necessarily be the same pleasure as the 138 hp thermal petrol model.
