Two people reported to the police for advertising alcohol to young people

The Consumer Ombudsman has reported two people to the police for advertisements for alcohol targeted at young people under the age of 18.

This is stated by the Consumer Ombudsman in a press release on Thursday.

According to the press release, the two people have advertised parties with pictures of drinks and vodka bottles on the social media Instagram and Facebook.

One of the profiles where advertising was done had labeled several of the photos with the text “16+”. The brand was, among other things, on a picture with the text “Wildest Rave Party”, where liquor bottles were depicted.

The other profile also marketed parties with pictures of colorful drinks with the text “Summer Party” followed by “16+”.

The Consumer Ombudsman assesses that both profiles direct their marketing of alcohol towards children and young people under the age of 18.

It is illegal according to the Marketing Act.

Julie Jørgensen, who is an attorney at the Consumer Ombudsman, states that these are two private individuals.

The police reports have been submitted to Nordsjælland’s and Copenhagen’s Vestegns Police. This does not necessarily mean that the parties had to be held in the two police districts, but that the people who have been reported live in the districts.

The Consumer Ombudsman has a duty of confidentiality and therefore cannot provide further information about those reported to the police.

It was the Alcohol Advertising Board that alerted the Consumer Ombudsman to the postings on social media.

It is not permitted to advertise parties with alcohol for children and young people. This applies regardless of whether the event is small or takes place at a large discotheque, says the consumer ombudsman in the press release.

Earlier this month, two nightclubs in Lolland-Falster were also reported to the police by the Consumer Ombudsman for illegal marketing of alcohol to children and young people under the age of 18.

The marketing took place on Facebook.
