Two children named Farzana Islam Meem (11) and Rumain Islam (8) died after drowning in a pond in Chittagong’s Karnaphuli. The accident took place on Saturday (September 21) around 4:30 pm in the pond of Malek Saudagar’s house in Charlakshya Union (Ward No. 03) of the upazila.
The fact of the incident has been confirmed by the guardian (father) Mohammad Ismail Hossain who is staying at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Local people said that in the afternoon, elder sister Farzana Islam Meem and younger sister Rumain Islam along with another child were playing near the house. Later, while going down to the nearby pond to take a bath, both the sisters accidentally drowned in the pond.
When the other child screamed after seeing the matter, the neighbors heard her screams and rushed to the pond to rescue the two sisters and first took them to the South Chittagong Hospital in Karnaphuli. Doctors there sent their two sisters to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Later, the doctors of Chamek Hospital’s emergency department declared Farzana Islam Meem dead after examining the two sisters.
And younger sister Rumain Islam was taken to Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital Medical College where she died after a while. Staying with parents in Chamek Hospital. Manik confirmed this information.
In this regard, Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Monir Hossain said, ‘I heard that two children died after falling into the water. The rest is being investigated and legal action is being taken.’
