The PSP arrested two men suspected of having robbed more than a hundred cars in recent days in various areas of Greater Lisbon, a police source told Lusa this Friday.
According to the same source, the two men, aged 48 and 19, were arrested on Thursday by elements of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Security Police and are suspected of the crime of aggravated theft of several vehicles.
According to the PSP, the police began investigations based on information transmitted by one of the victims that ended with the location of the two suspects in possession of a car with false license plates while transporting items to a warehouse, in the parish of Beato, in Lisbon.
The police added that they also seized dozens of items that had been stolen from several vehicles at the scene.
The police source stated that the two detainees were responsible for more than a hundred vehicle robberies in recent days, and so far there is evidence to link the suspects with thefts of 55 vehicles in the districts of Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra.
The PSP also indicates that the recovered items were valued at more than 20 thousand euros, in addition to the damage caused to the various vehicles, which has not yet been accounted for.
The police, who will continue with the investigation, believe that with these two arrests “public tranquility has been restored due to the enormous wave of vehicle robberies that had been plaguing Lisbon and neighboring districts”.
The two suspects were arrested under an arrest warrant outside of flagrante delicto and will be presented for the first judicial interrogation to apply a coercive measure.
