In two ethnic catering establishments, the Coast Guard detected the sale of fish without the minimum mandatory traceability information and without appropriate labelling. The intervention led to the seizure of approximately 1.5 tons of fish products.
Two tons of fish products without traceability or not compliant with labeling standards were seized during the national “e-Fishing” operation, conducted by the Coast Guard under the Maritime Directorate of Venice. The operation, aimed at combating illegal fishing and protecting the Made in Italy fish product, led to the raising of 22 administrative sanctions for a total of approximately 42,500 euros.
Overall, 64 inspections were carried out in a large inter-regional area which includes Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Pordenone and part of Udine.
Among the most serious irregularities found, the cases discovered in the autonomous province of Bolzano stand out. In two ethnic catering establishments, the Coast Guard detected the sale of fish lacking the minimum mandatory traceability information and without appropriate labelling. The intervention led to the seizure of approximately 1.5 tonnes of fish products, which were subsequently destroyed, and the imposition of fines for a total amount of 3,000 euros.

Furthermore, in one of the two premises, the collaboration with the local health authority (Ulss) revealed serious sanitation deficiencies, resulting in the temporary closure of the business.
The “e-Fishing” operation is part of a broader control plan for activities related to the fishing sector, aimed at guaranteeing food safety and compliance with regulations to protect consumers and honest operators in the sector.
