According to Spanish police, the suspects contacted the women on a website aimed at the actor’s fans and made them believe they “had a romantic relationship with him”.
Posing as Pitt, the gang members then allegedly encouraged the women to invest in various ventures that did not exist.
One woman was defrauded of €175,000, while the second lost €150,000.
“Cybercriminals studied their social networks and psychologically profiled them, discovering that both women were vulnerable, lacking affection and in a state of depression,” police said.
The police arrested five people in this case in Andalusia, after making several searches. The police managed to recover 85,000 euros.
