Incident in Leskovac Jura: Two female workers were injured, the manager threw a chair at them

Two female workers of the Jura factory in Leskovac were admitted to the emergency center in that city after an incident in which, according to their colleagues, a manager from South Korea threw chairs at them.

As the director of the General Hospital in Leskovac, Nebojsa Dimitrijević, confirmed to the Beta agency, one worker was admitted around 9 a.m. with an acute reaction to stress.

“The GM worker (48) has an arrhythmia, the neurological findings are normal, she received sedative therapy,” said Dimitrijević and added that the other worker is most likely in the psychiatric ward due to the stress she experienced.

According to witnesses, the incident happened because the workers were sitting on chairs, which the manager did not like.

“He told them that the position they were working in was made up, he picked up female colleagues and started throwing chairs. They were in shock, and one of them fainted,” one of the workers, who wished to remain anonymous, told Beta.

A manager with tantrums

Commissioner of the Independent Union of Metalworkers of Serbia, Predrag Stojanović, said that this is not an isolated case.

“That Korean harassed managers on several occasions, this is not the first time, he spat at one manager, broke her phone, maybe a year has passed since then. He has these outbursts of frustration and rage. Now there are three women who have papers from the doctor that they have an easier job, so they have been assigned chairs. They were sitting there and he came and started shouting. One of those women was taken away by an ambulance, one of them was hit by a chair, or more precisely, she was grazed,” said Stojanović.

He added that the workers filed a statement about the incident, but were afraid to file an official complaint against the manager. “The woman from the board told me that they wrote a statement, they can only report him privately. People are afraid. It won’t change anything, even if they report him, it can make him even more angry. I think it will be covered up as always and will remain only within the factory, Stojanović said.

The independent trade union of metal workers Jura Leskovac believes that the company is responsible for this incident “because its business model is contempt and disrespect for our workers”.

They note that they will file a criminal complaint against the Korean manager, but they also demand that the company itself sanction him.

“We sent a letter to the company in which we highlighted our demands – that manager Kang be banned from entering the factory immediately, that zero tolerance be introduced for physical and verbal violence by managers and leaders towards workers,” the union announced, among other things.

The Leskovac police confirmed that the incident was reported to them around 1:00 p.m., and that they will be able to provide more details after hearing all the actors.
