Two young people aged 19 and 25 were arrested after stealing cars to burgle car washes in Vendée and Loire-Atlantique.
Two young men were arrested by the police after a series of car theftsmainly Citroën C4 and Peugeot 207. These were then used for burglarize coin acceptors for car washes.
Serial burglaries at car washes
Aged of 19 et 25 ansthese two individuals targeted the car wash stations for steal cash deposited in the machines intended to activate the equipment. The facts took place between April and August 2024. They covered a large area from Villeneuve-en-Retz to La Marne, to towns in the north of Vendée. In total, About fifteen cars were stolen. Car washes are known to be places discreet and poorly supervised. It was therefore a prime target for these young offenders. However, the gendarmes of the Pornic research brigade community managed to identifier the two authors of these thefts. They did it thanks to images video surveillance of the various car washes that were burglarized. These valuable elements allowed the police to locate suspects living in the Machecoul area.

On September 10, 2024, they were arrested et acknowledged part of the facts which they are accused of during their hearings. They explained that their main target was the coin acceptors at car washes. An easy target according to them. Then, the stolen cars were set on fire to erase all evidence of their passage.
The two young people are in provisional detention pending their trial.
After their police custody, the two suspects appeared before the Saint-Nazaire judicial court on September 12, 2024. After this appearance, they were placed in pretrial detention. They are currently awaiting trial, scheduled for November 15. This situation allows law enforcement to secure the continuation of the investigation and also to avoid possible recurrences.
The arrest of these two offenders finally puts an end to a series of car thefts and burglaries. These have affected several municipalities in Vendée and Loire-Atlantique. Behind them, they left burnt vehicles and heavily damaged car wash traders. impacted by financial losses.
