Former world champion Mike Tyson revealed serious health problems in preparation after his defeat in his boxing comeback.
“I almost died in June,” the 58-year-old wrote on the Internet platform X. “I had eight blood transfusions. I lost half of my blood and 25 pounds in the hospital. I had to fight to get healthy for the fight , so I won.” He did not provide any further medical details.
The former heavyweight dominator lost unanimously on points to internet star Jake Paul on Friday. Some fans and observers saw it as an embarrassment for Tyson, who had little chance against his opponent, who was 31 years his junior.
“This is one of those moments where you lose but you still win,” Tyson wrote. He is grateful for the evening and doesn’t regret getting into the ring again.
It was not a normal experience “that my children saw me on equal terms with a talented fighter half my age for eight rounds in a sold-out Dallas Cowboy Stadium,” added Tyson and thanked him for that.
