Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is leaving the board of directors of Aurora Innovation, a company that develops self-driving cars and technologies for their production and development. He says this is necessary to focus on his current responsibilities as CEO of Uber. Aurora confirms that Dara’s departure from the board was not the result of disagreements with the company.

Khosrowshahi will be replaced on Aurora’s board of directors by Shailene Bhatt, senior vice president and chief operating officer of AtkinsRéalis, who once worked for the Federal Highway Administration. About this reports TechCrunch.
The story of Uber and Aurora Innovation, a startup backed by Sequoia Capital and Amazon, began in 2020. Then Uber transferred to Aurora its own division for developing technologies for unmanned taxis and freight transportation, Uber ATG.
As part of the deal, Uber transferred its stake in ATG and invested $400 in Aurora, resulting in the carrier receiving a 26% stake in the combined company, and Khosrowshahi joining the startup’s board of directors.
The companies remained connected by sharing Uber Freight, Uber’s brokerage platform that connects shippers and carriers. In June 2024, Uber and Aurora announced plans for a long-term partnership to bring trucks powered by Aurora technology to the Uber Freight network.
However, Uber’s relationship with Aurora is not exclusive. The carrier also struck a deal with Waabi, a self-driving truck startup founded by Raquel Urtasun, who was previously chief scientist and head of R&D at Uber ATG.
