Ubisoft has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, saying it had a good start to the year. announcedAccording to the report, this success was largely due to the success and growth of its ongoing Games as a Service (Games as a Service) franchises. However, there is some bad news for Ubisoft’s mobile gaming efforts. The release dates of two of its long-awaited games have been delayed again.
XDefiant, a free-to-play first-person shooter released in May, has exceeded expectations by attracting more than 10 million players in its first two weeks. Ubisoft called it an “encouraging start” in the report, noting its quarterly update schedule to keep players in the game.
Tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege, which launched in 2015, is also continuing to perform well for Ubisoft. Year 9 Season 1 was the game’s highest-grossing update event to date and is reportedly seeing very strong growth in activity year-over-year. The Crew Motorfest is also seeing solid interest, while Skull and Bones is also said to be performing well despite poor post-launch reception.
All of this has led to Ubisoft generating €290 million in revenue in Q1 2024, comfortably ahead of its stated target of €275 million and representing an 8.3% increase over the same period last year. Also announced today were the delays for The Division Resurgence and Rainbow Six Mobile . Both games were originally announced by Ubisoft for 2022. Aside from limited access through some beta events, neither game has officially been released on the Android and iOS markets so far.
The latest delays push the release dates of the two mobile games out of Ubisoft’s current fiscal year window, meaning the games will arrive after March 2025. The publisher explained the reason for the delay as “ensuring these experiences meet expectations with optimized KPIs in the context of a challenging but very large market.”
Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows are next on the list of Ubisoft’s blockbuster titles for 2024.
