Ubitium presented the development of a universal processor. Stands for CPU and GPU

Startup Ubitium says it’s working on a single type of processor that could fill all the other processors necessary for a computer.

Ubitium, which only surfaced this year, has disclosed the development of its general-purpose processor, which is based on a “workload-focused microarchitecture”.

“Our universal processor can do everything – CPU, GPU, DSP, FPGA – in one chip, in one architecture. This is not an incremental improvement. It’s a paradigm shift. It is the processor architecture that the era of artificial intelligence demands,” says Ubitium CEO Hyun Shin Cho.

The general-purpose processor is based on the RISC-V architecture traditionally used for processors. However, the upcoming chip from Ubitium will not be divided into multiple sections, each of which should be dedicated to a certain group of tasks. The processor will contain transistors that will be completely universal and each of them will play any role. This is something that companies have to deal with AMD years Intel they never came before

However, the company is starting with only $3.7 million, which may sound like a huge amount. It’s different in the world of microprocessors, most companies have to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to break into the market and get their chips into production.
