The European Football Union (UEFA) announced today that it has decided to withdraw the 2027 Champions League final from the “San Siro” stadium in Milan.

As stated in the announcement, UEFA did not receive guarantees from the city authorities of Milan that the reconstruction of the stadium will be completed by June 5, 2027, when the final is planned.

“Since the city authorities of Milan could not guarantee that there would be no work and reconstruction at the San Siro stadium and its surroundings during 2027, during the period of the Champions League final, it was decided that Milan would not be awarded the organization of the final, and that the competition for the host again open and the final decision will be made in May or June 2025,” UEFA announced on its official website.

“San Siro” has hosted the Champions League final four times (1965, 1970, 2001 and 2016). It is planned that the opening of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held at the stadium in Milan.

UEFA previously decided that Munich will host the 2025 UEFA Champions League final, and Budapest in 2026.
