UK inflation unchanged | Economic News



Annual inflation in the UK came in at 2.2% in August, in line with expectations.

The British Office for National Statistics (ONS) has announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for August.

Accordingly, annual inflation was 2.2 percent in August, within expectations. Inflation had also been 2.2 percent in July.

Annual inflation, excluding energy and food prices, was 3.6 percent in August. Core inflation was measured at 3.3 percent annually in July.

Service sector inflation was calculated as 5.6 percent on an annual basis in August. Service inflation was at 5.2 percent in July.

ONS Chief Economist Grant Fitzner, in his assessment of the data, said inflation remained stable in August, adding that the increase in airline prices was offset by the decrease in restaurant and hotel prices.

Fitzner noted that raw material prices have also started to decline after two months of increases.
