UK wants changes for 19 billion mega sale

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has ordered changes to Vodafone’s $19 billion purchase of telecoms firm Three UK, finding that it could lead to tens of millions of customers having their bills increased.

The CMA has published its preliminary findings into Vodafone’s $19 billion deal to buy Three UK.

Accordingly, in its first investigation, which began in January 2024, the agency found that Vodafone’s acquisition of Three UK could lead to a significant reduction in competition as tens of millions of customers could face higher prices and less comprehensive service.

The CMA has requested the companies make changes to the agreement before it reaches its final decision on December 7.

The agency will consult publicly on its findings and explore potential solutions before making a final decision.

If the merger takes place, the number of mobile operators in the country will decrease from four to three.
