Ukrainian troops attacked a military facility near the city of Karachev in the Bryansk region of Russia, the portal La.lv reported, citing Unian and a source in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The target was successfully hit, and explosions continue in the area of the object due to the detonation of ammunition, Latvian media write about this.
The source clarified that this is the first time ATACMS missiles have been used to attack Russian territory. The city of Karachev is located near Bryansk, approximately 130 km from the border with Ukraine. On the night of November 19, 2024, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, together with other formations, attacked the arsenal of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Karachev. According to the data provided, from 02:30 at least 12 explosions and detonations occurred in the target area.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired six long-range American ATACMS missiles at a facility in the Bryansk region. The department claims that five missiles were intercepted by the S-400 and Pantsir air defense systems, and one was damaged.
«Fragments of the rocket fell on the technical territory of a military facility; a fire broke out at the crash site, but it was promptly extinguished. There were no casualties or destruction as a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack“, said the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Earlier it became known that the US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use long-range weapons to attack Russian territory. On the same day, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin approved the updated nuclear doctrine, as previously reported.
