“Ukraine will not restore transit”: Washington wants the EU to completely give up Russian gas

The US is advocating for the EU to completely stop importing Russian gas, despite the efforts of a number of countries to maintain supplies, US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt said.

– Slovakia, Hungary, Austria – these are essentially the countries you are talking about. I think it’s ultimately a matter of Brussels. A decision was clearly made in Brussels to reduce (gas deliveries from Russia) to zero by 2027. The United States of America firmly supports that goal – said Payet, commenting on the desire of a number of European countries to maintain deliveries of Russian gas despite Brussels’ request to give it up.

Also, he believes that Ukraine will never restore the transit of Russian gas through its territory.

– I am sure that there is no way back – said Pajat.

He claims that Europe is “ceasing to be dependent” on Russian energy, leading to the “dramatic growth” of the US liquefied natural gas industry.

Let us remind you that the company “Gasprom” was left without the technical and legal possibility to deliver gas for transit through Ukraine. Due to the expiration of the contract with the company “Naftogas Ukraine”, Russian gas will not be delivered through that territory from January 1, the Russian company announced earlier.
