Ukraine has decided to upgrade its Sea Baby drones to improve their capabilities at sea. Until now, the unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) were capable of carrying 800 kg of payload and had a range of around 800 km. The improvements have allowed for increased capabilities.
After modifications, Sea Babies have range up to 1000 km. This means that marine drones are capable of achieving any destination in the Black Sea. In addition, Ukrainians increased their load capacity to 1 ton. They can therefore carry heavier loads, and for the Russians this is certainly not good news. It is also worth adding that the machines can reach a maximum speed of up to 90 km/h.
For the Russians, Ukrainian naval drones are a real nightmare. So far, they have been used in dozens of attacks on enemy aircraft. Among them were the Black Sea Fleet ship Pavel Derzhavin, the landing ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak, the mine-sweeping ship Vladimir Kozitski, the patrol boat Mongoose and the missile ship Samum.
The production of Sea Baby drones is handled by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The machine costs about 204 thousand dollars and is capable of sinking “an enemy warship worth tens of millions of dollars,” Dehtiarenko added.
The Russians have suffered huge losses in the Black Sea as a result of kamikaze naval drone attacks. In May of this year, they were estimated at over $500 million, as reported at the time by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Ukrainian defense intelligence service. The Kremlin lost 13 ships of various classes.
This caused that The Black Sea Fleet was in disarray and the Russians began to withdraw their own ships, because they feared losing more machines. Some time ago, Ukrainian intelligence reported that the aggressor decided to remove its last warship from near Crimea. Unmanned weapons caused huge losses to the invading army, and this applies not only to ships, but also to other vehicles. Including T-72, T-90 and T-14 tanks and BMP infantry fighting vehicles.
Sea Baby drones have been used by Ukrainians for months, and this is not the first modification of these machines. The USVs were previously used as kamikaze vehicles, and then they were modified in such a way that they could shoot rockets.
