Ulanzi is a manufacturer of equipment and accessories for amateur and professional filmmakers, vloggers and other content creators. In its portfolio you will find various models of tripods, holders, lights, microphones, but also other equipment. I myself use many accessories of this brand at work. Their common denominator is high-quality and well-thought-out processing and an affordable price. This time we got to test a very interesting device from this company called Stream Deck.
Ulanzi Stream Deck D200 is a peripheral device, a PC console, originally intended for streaming, but due to the equipment and functions, content creators, freelancers, gamers or professionals who work with various tools and software on a computer will appreciate its possibilities.
Thanks to the aluminum body and transparent buttons with built-in LCD displays, the controller has a robust impression and looks very premium. It will definitely not get lost on the work table in a professional editing room, studio, and players will also like it very much. The front panel is fitted
14 buttons, 13 of which are fully programmable, designed to work with major creative software packages and system controls. The manufacturer supplies its own configuration software with very simple and intuitive operation. The device stands out with its customizable button interface, support for plug-ins, icon packs and profiles, and aims to make a name for itself in the streaming controller market.
The 196×196-pixel LCD buttons are arranged symmetrically in a 3×5 grid on the D200’s front panel, with the exception of the double button in the lower right corner. While the other 13 buttons are fully programmable, this particular button only serves to toggle information between time and CPU/RAM usage. It’s a bit of a shame, because the double button would be great for the role of confirmation, start recording or main action and so on. We can only hope that in one of the next software updates, the manufacturer will release it for such use, if that is possible. Still, the other buttons work as expected, so they’re fully configurable.
Stream Deck D200 offers two working positions. In the basic one, it lies flat on the table on the rubber bands on the bottom. However, the package also includes a plastic case, thanks to which you can have it tilted at an angle of about 45°. I was doing better with him in this position. The case also has rubber feet, so they are easy to handle.
The robust design with large buttons makes it easy to use and there is no risk of missing a button. The buttons have a little travel, but require a firmer press, which prevents you from accidentally activating some. However, the power is adequate, so the control is comfortable.
UlanziDeck software to work with the D200 is available for both PC and Mac OS, both Apple and Intel architecture. Out of the box, the device comes with support for several well-known software such as OBS, Streamlabs, Adobe, DaVinci Resolve and more. The Marketplace application store is available directly from the menu, which allows you to search for additional profiles, plug-ins and icon packs. Loading and configuring profiles is easy and the D200 communicates effectively with the relevant software.
During testing, OBS worked flawlessly, with hotkeys responding instantly. Similarly, DaVinci Resolve was easily adapted to the needs of regular editing, which makes the workflow much more efficient. For users who want to create their own profiles to manage a wide range of tasks in Windows 11 or Mac OS, UlanziDeck software offers preset shortcuts and plugins that make the whole process easier. Of course, just because there are 13 buttons doesn’t mean you only have 13 functions to choose from. You can add additional profiles, each of which can have up to 10 pages.
However, the possibilities of the D200 do not end with the control of various applications. The possibility to preset various actions, functions, keyboard shortcuts or multi-actions is very useful. If, for example, you often need to list an address with billing or company data, you can simply create a button under which you can save the entire list. You can also create keyboard shortcuts or switches. You can attach your own icon to each action. If you save the launch button of an application, its icon will automatically be loaded on it.
Another interesting feature is the control of Ulanzi studio lights. You can save light environments under the buttons and change them with one button. There are several lights that support this control.
Although the D200 does not include a built-in icon creator, custom icons can easily be created using external editors. One area that could improve over time is plugin support. Although the device supports major creative software, the community around the D200 is not yet that developed. However, Ulanzi has included an APIRequest plugin that allows you to send support requests to other applications.
As the first model in its category, the Ulanzi Stream Deck D200 is a very interesting device that can appeal to a wide audience of users. Whether you’re working with spreadsheets, text, editing photos, videos, music, streaming, playing games, or programming, Stream Deck can make your work much easier and more efficient for all of these tasks at a price you can’t refuse.
Verdict: An excellent helper for every computer
