Pope Francis he used very harsh words to deny the right to abortionwhich the Pontiff defined as “unacceptable“. According to Bergoglio, the right to undergo this practice would contradict human rights and, in particular, the right to life. “All life must be protected,” added Pope Francis in his speech to the Diplomatic Corps.
What Pope Francis said about the right to abortion
In a speech to the diplomatic corps (read almost entirely by Monsignor Ciampanelli), Pope Francis defined it as “unacceptable” to talk about a so-called “right to abortion”, which “contradicts human rights, in particular the right to life”.
The Pontiff added: “All life must be protected, in every moment, from conception to natural death, because no child is a mistake or guilty of existingjust as no elderly or sick person can be deprived of hope and discarded.”
Pope Francis defined it as “unacceptable” to talk about a right to abortion, which, according to the Pontiff, “contradicts human rights, in particular the right to life”.
Pope Francis’ previous statements on abortion
Already in the past, Pope Francis had been very harsh on the issue of abortion, denying any right in this regard.
Last September, responding to a question on this topic during a press conference on a flight from Brussels to Rome, the Pontiff said: “An abortion is murder, you kill a human being“. And then: “Doctors who lend themselves to this I am, allow me the word, hitmen“.
According to Pope Francis, “this cannot be discussed”, because “science tells you that in the month of conception all the organs are already there” and, therefore, “a human being is killed”.
Bergoglio also said: “Women have the right to life, their life and the life of their children.”
Pope Francis’ clarification on contraceptive methods
The attitude of total closure shown by Pope Francis towards abortion is not reserved by the Pontiff for contraceptive methods.
In the same press conference in which he defined abortion as “murder” and the doctors who indulge in this practice as “hit men”, Bergoglio in fact said: “Another thing is contraceptive methods. They are something else. There is no need to confuse.”
