Unilever shared its sustainability efforts and new goals that it has focused on. The group, which shapes its efforts based on climate, nature, plastic and living conditions and operates in five categories, namely beauty & health, personal care, food, ice cream and home care with 20 brands, announced that they aim to be more focused, faster and more systematic.

Providing detailed information about the studies, Unilever Turkey Country President Ali Fuat Orhonoğlu said, “We continue our policies that prioritize innovation, reduce carbon footprint, and prioritize environmental and social issues. We do not look at the world through the eyes of a balance sheet. We act within a chain of values. We value scientific developments. We are pioneers in the use of artificial intelligence. We are fulfilling the same mission in Turkey as we do globally.”

Sustainable Living Compass strategy established

Orhonoğlu, who said that they launched the Sustainable Living Plan in 2010 to popularize sustainable living, said, “We set a 10-year goal set, worked towards these goals, created a strong impact and achieved most of our goals. We also learned lessons from what we could not achieve. With these lessons, we created the Sustainable Living Compass strategy in 2020. We set these goals for 2030 and built on the previous plan.”

Orhonoğlu stated that as Unilever, sustainability targets have expanded, increased in number, enriched in scope and integrated with all business and investment targets, and said, “Today, in 2024, 6 years before the Compass maturity, we have updated our targets. Because just as we tried to pioneer two eras in the field of sustainability before, when we look outside today, we see a new world, new priorities and that we need to renew ourselves. We are saying it is time to act fast, not just talk, and we aim to reach net zero emissions in 2039.”

215 tons reduction in annual emissions

Sharing the targets regarding their studies on electric trucks, Orhonoğlu said, “With the first step we took with 3 electric trucks to start the electromobility transformation in Turkey, we aim to reduce our annual carbon emissions by 215 tons in the first stage. This reduction will be equivalent to the carbon absorption of approximately 1,287 trees, or in other words, eliminating the carbon emissions of a truck that circles the world four times.”

2,800 tons of carbon emissions will be prevented

Unilever Turkey Country President Ali Fuat Orhonoğlu, who stated that they opened the solar energy facility of the factory in Konya, said, “With this facility with a total capacity of 5 MW, we are able to produce 1/3 of the total electricity consumption of our factory ourselves. In terms of carbon reduction, we will prevent approximately 2,800 tons of carbon emissions per year. Or in other words, we are providing a reduction equivalent to planting almost 4 thousand trees.”
