Until now, the Japanese hot hatch, which has yet to arrive in Europe, was exclusively available with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, Toyota has decided to offer customers an automatic transmission as well.
The new automatic transmission offers 8 gears, which will be able to be switched using the new “paddles” placed behind the steering wheel. Moreover, the new automatic transmission also integrates a “spot-launch” function, as well as unique software that works differently from those on the GR86 and GR Supra models. In the case of the GR Corolla, the new automatic transmission changes gears according to the position of the accelerator and brake pedals. Four driving modes are available to the driver, i.e. Normal, Sport, Eco and Custom.
Along with the new automatic gearbox, Toyota has prepared other technical updates for the GR Corolla, it says Klix.ba. The new automatic transmission works with its own cooling system.
Changes have also been made to the 1.6 liter three-cylinder turbo engine, which now develops more torque than before. Thus, the torque was increased from 370 to 400 Nm.
The updated GR Corolla also brings front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials as standard. Previously, this important addition was an option on lower trim lines. Suspension has also been revised, with new springs and anti-roll bars. All-wheel drive, as well as the power of the tutbo engine of 304 hp remain unchanged.
Finally, Toyota slightly refreshed the optics of its hot hatch. New is the new design of the front bumper, as well as the new side slits on it, specially designed to reduce turbulence around the wheels at high speeds, resulting in better stability.
