US jobless claims beat expectations

The US Department of Labor released weekly data on unemployment benefits applications.

Accordingly, the number of people applying for unemployment benefits for the first time in the country increased by 20 thousand people compared to the previous week, reaching 243 thousand in the week ending July 13.

Market expectations for unemployment benefits were that the number of applications would be 229,000.

The previous week’s data on unemployment benefit applications was revised from 222,000 to 223,000.

As of last week, the four-week average number of applications for unemployment benefits increased by 1,000 to 234,750.

The number of ongoing unemployment benefit applications increased by 20,000 in the week ending July 6, reaching 1,867,000.
