American tennis player Emma Navarro qualified for the semi-finals of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season, for the first time on Tuesday, after defeating Spaniard Paula Badosa in the quarter-finals.
Navarro, currently ranked 12th in the world, beat the 29th in the hierarchy in just two sets, with partial scores of 6-2 and 7-5, in a match played at Arthur Ashe Stadium and which lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
The 23-year-old American tennis player had never made it past the first round at the US Open and has already surpassed her best result in a major, after reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this year.
In the semi-finals, Emma Navarro will face the winner of the duel between Chinese Qinwen Zheng, ranked seventh in the world, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, ranked second in the rankings.
