An exit poll reveals that almost three-quarters of voters in this Tuesday’s United States presidential election believe that American democracy is under threat.
The study, conducted by Edison Research across the country, shows that 73% of voters believe that democracy is at risk, after a fiery election campaign between Democrat and current vice-president Kamala Harris and Republican and former president Donald Trump. Only 25% did not show the same concern.
According to this survey, democracy and the economy are the issues that most concern Americans, with one third of voters’ choices each. Another 14% of responses were for abortion and 11% for immigration.
These are data that reflect the growing polarization of opinions in the United States, although they represent only a small slice of the millions of people who voted in the elections, before and during this Tuesday. Furthermore, the numbers are still subject to change as more people are polled at the polls.
