Use Facebook Creator Content Bonus Programs for Stories

Facebook is testing a new feature called Performance Bonus that allows selected creators to earn money through story posts.

Facebook is currently rolling out the Performance Bonus program for Stories on a trial basis. Selected creators have reported that they currently have the opportunity to earn money with their stories. The Performance Bonus program is part of the Facebook Creator Content Bonus Program and is only available for a limited time. Compensation is based on the interactions and views that the public stories generate.

Conditions of participation: Invitation-only and exclusive content

Access to the Performance Bonus Program trial is strictly limited and on an invite-only basis. Social media expert Matt Navarra recently posted on Threads that he was invited to join the program. In his post, he shows screenshots that illustrate a participating person’s view, including the earnings summary and bonus-qualifying content.

The content that is eligible for the already rolled out Creator Content Bonus Program includes photos, text, and short and long-form videos – Reels and Stories were not previously eligible. These restrictions make it clear that Facebook has so far wanted to promote classic content that lies outside of the highly popular Story and Reels formats.

Engagement is key: interactions determine the bonus

How is the revenue that creators can currently achieve on a trial basis with the additional performance booster for stories calculated? The value is based on the engagement that the public stories generate, i.e. the number of views, reactions and shares. Facebook wants to increase engagement on the platform and motivate creators to publish high-quality and interactive stories.

The bonus program is another step in Meta’s efforts to expand monetization opportunities for creators. In a similar context, Meta already lifted monetization caps for creators in March 2024 and expanded the Performance Bonus Program to several countries.

Future prospects: Limited time and exclusive participation

Although Facebook is currently making the Stories monetization feature available only to a limited group, it’s not unlikely that it will be opened up to more creators in the future. However, Meta has shown in the past that invite-only programs are often later expanded to a broader user base to provide more creators with a monetization opportunity.
