Users are losing interest in foldable smartphones, so they will have to come down in price

Analytical company Counterpoint Research has published the results of a study of the foldable smartphone market in the third quarter of 2024. According to the data presented, global shipments of foldable smartphones in the reporting quarter decreased year-on-year by 1% after six quarters of consecutive growth. Also, for the first time, sales of such devices fell in the third quarter – previously this period was marked by growth. Apparently, the launch of new Samsung products did not go according to plan. The release of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 helped Samsung retain its leadership in the global foldable smartphone market with a 56% share, although the company’s share was 70% a year earlier. The company’s unit deliveries fell year-on-year by 21%, while everyone else’s supplies were growing. The Galaxy Z Fold6 smartphone showed frankly modest sales results, and the Galaxy Z Flip6 clamshell could hardly match the sales of its predecessor. This can be attributed to the lack of significant changes in new products compared to their predecessors.
