On October 16, the winter season begins on the state road network, which will last until April 15. Daugavpils municipal services are also diligently preparing for work in the winter months in order to promptly ensure appropriate treatment and maintenance of roads with the onset of cold weather, according to the municipal portal.
The Department of Public Utilities reported that a mixture of sand and salt has already been purchased, which will be used to sprinkle roads and sidewalks. Tanks for this mixture are installed in different parts of the city. Road maintenance equipment is being prepared according to the approved schedule and in the coming days, if necessary, it will be possible to begin clearing and paving the roads. However, weather forecasts indicate that this will not become relevant so soon: although at night the air temperature sometimes approaches freezing, the ground is still warm enough that ice does not form.
In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to monitor the weather forecast and take care of replacing tires on time, without leaving it to the last minute and observing the new classification standards for winter tires.
