Launching a new car brand is extremely difficult, and even more so when it comes to wanting to sell a supercar whose price will be around several million euros. The history of the automobile is full of attempts that failed before a single prototype could be made. Even so, we are facing a new attempt, that of Nilu27which in an era of electrified cars with more than 1,000 hp, is betting on an analog car animated by a V12 atmospheric.
Nilu27 sounds like nickname of gamerbut it is a new brand of cars created by the designer Sasha Selipanov. The author of the Bugatti Chiron, after his time at Genesis and Koenigseggwhere he designed the lines of the Gemera, for example, has decided to create his own car brand and thus give free rein to his creativity. And leave his mark on the history of the automobile, a little deeper.
Nilu, or how to leave your mark on history
Nilu27’s first car is the NiluIt sounds strange, but it is true, and it will debut at the Monterey Car Week in a few days. The Nilu is not far behind in terms of performance, considering that its 6.5-liter V12 engine develops 1.070 CV y 875 Nm of torque, and is said to be capable of reaching 400 km/hBut, according to the brand, the spirit of the Nilu27 is not based solely on speed, but on the pure and simple connection between man and machine.
Part of that connection is provided by the V12 engine. It is a naturally aspirated block that turns up to 120 hp. 11.000 rpm. Developed and manufactured by Hartley Engines From New Zealand, a company run by the brother of Brendon Hartley, a former F1 driver and current WEC driver, has an unusual design.
Visually it is a work of art, with its exhaust in Inconel with a 12 in 1 collector -3D printed- that exits from the top of the engine, improving heat dissipation thanks to the exposed engine bay. A seven-speed manual transmission made by Cima connects that engine to the rear wheels and the driver.
The chassis is of the carbon fiber monocoque type, reinforced by tubular aluminum alloy subframes. The front and rear double wishbone suspension supports the car weighing only 1,500 kgwith extra-long forks on the rear axle for handling precision.
It has Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, which are the “highest performance” brakes offered by the Italian company. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 brakes, 275 mm wide at the front and 325 mm wide at the rear, wrapped around 20- and 21-inch wheels with a central nut.
On an aesthetic level, however, the Nilu aims to be a work that will be remembered in history, striking, beautiful and mechanical. And the fact is that the curriculum of its author is enviable. Thus, in the Nilu we can appreciate traits of some of the best supercars in history. Ferrari a Bugatti (the front is essentially Sasha’s original proposal for the Chiron) passing through some Peugeot concept cars, such as the QuasarSelipanov has drawn inspiration from the best of history.
From Pagani and Spiker, Selipanov has taken the ideas for an interior that mixes elements of mechanical aspects, such as the instruments or the dashboard, technology (forged carbon fiber) and design.
Only 15 units will be manufactured of this launch edition of the Nilu, initially reserved exclusively for use on circuits, although 54 units “approved for the street” will also be manufactured. The Nilu will debut in California, at the Monterey Car Week, on August 15.
