Valencia Autonomous Government President Carlos Munoz, in his statement after the extraordinary meeting between his ministers, said that they have prepared a 136-item action plan to cover the economic damage caused by the flood disaster that hit more than 50 districts in Valencia and for reconstruction, and that they have prepared a 31 billion 402 million euro aid package from the central government. He said they requested it.
Munoz noted that they asked for such a high amount of aid from the central government to clean the houses, workplaces and streets damaged by the mud caused by the flood, to rebuild the industrial infrastructure and to help purchase vehicles in the region where more than 100 thousand vehicles were damaged, and also to Valencia. He noted that the autonomous administration will invest 250 million euros for the restructuring of the region.
Stating that the second installment payments of the income tax of the disaster victims have been suspended, Munoz announced that a grant support of 6 thousand euros will be immediately given to each family affected by the disaster and the first payments will start by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, while Munoz was making a statement to the press, a group gathered in front of the Valencia autonomous government building chanted “resign” slogans.
On the other hand, at the first meeting held by the local government of Valencia and the central government of Spain after the flood disaster, it was decided to establish 5 joint working groups to act together against the crisis in the region.
It has been announced that an investment of 2 billion 600 million euros will be made in the first phase only for infrastructure works in the region.
While many Spanish companies made statements to help Valencia, BBVA, Santander and La Caixa banks also announced that they would provide a total of 12 million euros in aid.
Although damage assessment studies continue after the flood in which 217 people lost their lives, more than 20 thousand hectares of agricultural land in Valencia have been damaged, 3 out of every 10 houses and many hospitals, industrial sites, workplaces and shopping malls have been damaged and more than 100 thousand hectares of land have been damaged. It is stated that many vehicles became unusable and were scrapped.
