A new Steam Deck comes when a generational jump is achieved.

Valve design engineers Lawrence Yang and Yazan Aldehayyat were interviewed by Reviews.org site, in which they explained that they don’t really believe in updating the hardware of handheld consoles every year. For this reason, in the case of Steam Deck, they do not do what the main competitors ASUS and Lenovo do, so they do not release a modernized version in exchange for a small improvement.

According to Valve, it wouldn’t be fair to existing owners to release something new so soon after the original machine that might only be slightly better than its predecessor. The company thinks much more in terms of generational leaps, without compromising battery life, which is a critical aspect for a device designed for portability. However, they have revealed that they are working on the second generation, but have not yet detailed its capabilities.
