VanMoof wants to outdo this e-bike brand

After all the news about e-bike brands going bankrupt, it is time for new innovations for electric bicycles. The manufacturer Urtopia claims to have the lightest e-bike motor that is also powerful. It makes sleek and light e-bikes possible. This also applies to a new 3D-printed titanium bicycle frame.

Urtopia is a bicycle brand that you can know from the first e-bike with built-in ChatGPT function and an electric bicycle with a double motor and a double battery. Urtopia will be at the major tech fair CES 2025 this week with a new e-bike motor, calling it the world’s lightest and most powerful, at least for its small size.

The e-bike motor called Quark DM 1.2 weighs only 1.2 kg and yet it delivers a strong 65 Nm of torque. The motor also has an accurate torque sensor for seamless driving. “This is a powerful yet efficient solution for cyclists seeking both performance and portability,” the company says.

Despite the size and weight, the performance is said to be comparable to most other e-bikes. The bike also features hollow cranksets that are compatible with most other bikes. Details about the first e-bikes equipped with the Quark DM 1.2 have yet to be announced.

3D printed titanium frame and solid-state battery

In any case, the innovation makes lighter electric bicycles possible. Urtopia also wants to make this possible with another novelty: a fully titanium 3D-printed frame, which should be stronger despite its low weight of 10 kg. The Titanium Zero’s frame is compatible with multiple gear, including SRAM’s 12-speed electric shifter.

In addition, the bicycle is equipped with a solid-state battery with a high energy density of 300Wh/kg. The Titanium Zero also has carbon wheels, carbon forks and a titanium alloy seatpost. More details about this e-bike will follow soon.

Voice assistant on your bike

Urtopia will also demonstrate its own AI voice assistant for its bicycles at the fair, Urtopia GPTwhich is powered by OpenAI’s AI models. The assistant should give you help and tips while cycling, such as warnings about navigation and safety.

The feature builds on the company’s previously released ChatGPT feature. If you need it, the assistant can even give you encouragement while cycling.

New e-bikes

The company is also launching several new e-bikes with carbon parts. These are probably successors to the brand’s current carbon e-bikes, but they have not yet been revealed. There is an image online of one of the new bikes, the Carbon 1 ST, which indicates a model with a low entry. The brand’s current carbon e-bikes cost between 2699 and 2999 euros.

The frame of the new bicycles is made of five types of high-quality carbon fiber. “We are committed to utilizing this material to its full potential.”
