On the occasion of the Fourth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, the Apostolic Penitentiary grants “plenary indulgence to all who participate in the liturgical celebrations of the Day and to those who “visit, in reality or virtually, elderly brothers and sisters in need or in difficulty; such as the sick, the lonely, and people with disabilities”.
The fourth World Grandparents Day, instituted by Pope Francis, will be celebrated on Sunday, July 28th.
The Holy See issued a decree this Thursday granting a Plenary Indulgence to the faithful who dedicate “adequate time to visit elderly brothers and sisters in need or in difficulty”.
The decree also specifies that “sick elderly people and all those who are unable to leave their homes for serious reasons and who spiritually unite themselves to the sacred functions of the World Day, offering to the Merciful God their prayers, pains and sufferings of their own lives”.
So that “the opportunity to obtain divine grace” may be more easily achieved “through pastoral charity”, the Apostolic Penitentiary firmly asks “priests, equipped with the appropriate faculties to hear confessions, to show themselves available, with a ready and generous spirit, for the celebration of Penance”.
