Venice raises the price of a one-day stay for some tourists

The Venice authorities have decided to increase the prices of one-day trips from April 18 next year, where tourists who decide to visit the city at the last minute will have to pay 10 euros for the tour.

It will also increase the number of days during which the amount of 10 euros must be paid. This decision will apply from every Friday to Sunday and holidays from April 18 to July 27, 2025, i.e. a total of 54 days per season.

By the way, this year’s season included a total of 29 days, where tourists had to pay five euros to tour the city.

The decision does not apply to tourists staying in Venetian hotels because they already pay the tourist tax, and it will not apply to residents, visitors who were born in Venice, students and workers. In addition, it is important to emphasize that those tourists who book at least four days before arrival, pay the amount of five euros.

Mayor Luigi Brugnaro emphasized that the goal of the tax is to help the city and its citizens in the fight against excessive tourism and avoid a large influx of guests during holidays and weekends.

“Venice is the first city in the world that tries to solve the problem of excessive tourism. We achieved good results,” said the mayor.

After the end of this year’s season, the government announced that they managed to collect more than two million euros in this way, but the residents were not satisfied. Many believe that the charging of entrance fees did not prevent mass visits by tourists and that the money was not ultimately directed to solving the problems faced by the residents.

Also, this year, the government made a decision on the number of people in tourist groups, which can now have a maximum of 25 people. They also prohibited the use of loudspeakers, so that the guides would not disturb the local population.
