“Very bad air” reigns in the Olympic Village

One of the French charity organizations announced on Tuesday that the air in the northern suburbs of Paris, where the athletes will be housed during the Olympic Games, is very bad. An important reason for this is certainly the proximity of the eight-lane highway, which is visible from many apartments, reports the French news agency AFP.

This is the conclusion of a study that collected data on measurements of dust particles in the air in the French capital. She found that the air is polluted in most of the 112 locations where sports facilities are located. The measurements should show that the pollution is much higher than the values recommended by the World Health Organization. The study refers to data collected by the Airparif organization, which has been monitoring air quality in Paris for several decades.

Pollution is highest near the Paris ring road area, close to which is the Olympic Village, located in the northern Paris suburb of Saint Ouen and part of the Seine Saint-Denis department. Impure air can prevent top athletes from performing at their highest level and even cause asthma attacks and dizziness. For this reason, the authorities have installed five outdoor air filters on residential buildings in the Olympic Village, which will absorb the air and then clean it of dust particles.

10,000 athletes will live in the Olympic Village during the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games will begin on July 26 and will last until August 11.
