Video from the moment police raided the home of a gang robbing elderly people – They pretended to be staff, maintenance or gardeners

A criminal group was dismantled whose members committed thefts and robberies in the homes of the elderly, pretending to be electricity supply employees, elevator maintenance workers or gardeners, in various areas of Attica.

The operation was developed in the areas of Phyli, Ano Liosion and Zefyrio with the participation of police officers from the above Service, as well as police officers from the OPKE, the Immediate Action Team (DIAS Team) and the Security Departments of Western Attica Security Sub-Directorate.

Seven members of the organization, aged 37, 38, 39, 42, 43 and 45 years old, were arrested and a case file was filed against them, as well as against three other members who have been identified, for distinguished thefts and robberies.

As it emerged from the preliminary investigation, the defendants, at least since February 2024, had formed and joined a group with continuous action, moving in groups consisting of two to five people.

As for their method of action, the members of the organization looked for houses where elderly people lived who might be convinced by the tricks they used, in order to break into their houses and with the method of employment to complete their criminal acts.

When they were spotted, they were approached by pretending to be power company employees, elevator maintenance men, or gardeners.

Sometimes when the victims realized their criminal intentions, they did not hesitate to use physical violence in order to keep the stolen goods.

From the searches carried out in the houses and in their possession, the following were found and confiscated:

  • lot of jewelry,
  • the sum of 14,015 euros,
  • 15 cell phones and
  • 4 vehicles

From the preliminary investigation so far, 9 cases of theft and robbery have been solved in Glyfada, Kypseli, Kolonos, Agios Panteleimonas, Ampelokipis, Kifissia, Galatsi, Agioi Anargyros and Zografou.

It is noted that the defendants have in the past involved the authorities for similar crimes, while some have served sentences in the country’s detention centers. Those arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney.
